Swim spas

Shaped like a traditional swimming pool, just a fraction of the size

Swim spas give you the best of both worlds. They include jets like a spa, which can be used to create a current that you can swim against for exercise or to work on your stroke, as well as somewhere to sit back and relax at the end of a hard day.

Perfect for smaller backyards or for those that follow a home therapy program, swim spas are designed to provide the ability to swim distances without having a big pool and can be used year-round.

Swimming is a popular activity as it delivers many health benefits without high impact on the body. Swimming keeps your heart rate up while building endurance, muscle strength and cardiovascular fitness. This helps maintain a healthy weight, heart and lungs and tones and strengthens the body. Swim spas allow you to customise the strength of the current to suit your goals.

The current produced in a swim spa is also effective for use with other forms of exercise:

  • Running: exercise your body without putting undue pressure on joints such as knees and ankles.
  • Core exercises: crunches, lunges and other core exercises can be completed underwater to enhance your abdominal workouts
  • Equipment based: use of a medicine ball or flutter board can help target muscle groups

Relaxing in a swim spa also has many health benefits, such as increased blood circulation, lowered blood pressure, stress reduction and relief from sore and aching muscles and joints.

As with any investment, the right advice matters. Always consult with your local SPASA member to get all the information you need to make an informed decision.
